Hello, I’m Ishmam

হ্যালো, আমি ইশমাম

With over a decade of experience in nonprofit marketing, fundraising, and audience strategy, including my current role as Director of Audience & Donor Strategy at the International Rescue Committee (IRC), I help mission-driven organizations grow revenue in ways that are strategic, sustainable, and human-centered.

At the IRC, I lead omnichannel marketing for core, sustainer, bridge, mid-level, and planned giving programs. My work focuses on building audience-led systems that meet donors where they are, and move them through intentional journeys that deepen engagement and maximize lifetime value.

Before the IRC, I honed my skills at organizations like Lambda Legal and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), where I developed deep expertise in crisis-responsive fundraising and donor engagement.

How I Work

I practice community-centric fundraising, which means centering donors as partners, building trust alongside revenue, and designing systems that are ethical, inclusive, and justice-oriented. This approach doesn't just raise more money — it creates communities of people who stay, give more, and advocate longer.

My experience at crisis-responsive organizations has taught me that urgency matters, but so does relationship. The most effective fundraising builds long-term pipelines rooted in shared values, interdependence, and collective action.

What I Offer

I provide strategy consulting and speaking engagements to help fundraising and marketing teams grow smarter, not just harder. My work spans audience strategy, donor retention, pipeline development, and omnichannel campaigns that are grounded in real-world experience and designed to translate into action.

I've spoken at the International Fundraising Congress, The Bridge Conference, AFP Fundraising Day, and more, and have been featured in The Chronicle of Philanthropy on topics like mid-level giving and legacy program growth.

Beyond Fundraising

I am a trans and non-binary Bangladeshi Muslim human being, and my work is inseparable from my commitment to justice, equity, and liberation. Whether I'm designing a donor journey or leading a workshop, I'm asking: How does this create a more just, interconnected world?
